Why 2D?
While the world is inherently three-dimensional, the continued popularity of 2D simulation software is due to its efficiency in certain scenarios. Many problems exhibit longitudinal invariance or axisymmetric, meaning that results remain consistent across any 2D cross-section. Consequently, allocating computer resources to enhance resolution in 2D rather than adding a third dimension proves more efficient. Moreover, 2D simulation significantly reduces solution time compared to its 3D counterpart, making it a practical choice for many applications.
CAD-Embedded Solution
EMWorks pioneered CAD-embedded electromagnetic simulation with EMS and HFWorks, acclaimed for their 3D capabilities. Surprisingly, even within the traditionally 3D-focused CAD-embedded community, there arose a demand for 2D solutions. Addressing this need, EMWorks developed EMWorks2D, expanding its suite to cater comprehensively to users' evolving requirements, reaffirming its commitment to providing versatile electromagnetic simulation solutions.
About EMWorks2D
EMWorks2D, akin to its predecessor EMS, is a finite electromagnetic simulation software tailored for applications spanning from DC to a few tens of MHz. It proficiently computes a range of parameters including electric and magnetic fields, flux, potential, eddy currents, circuit parameters like inductance and capacitance, mechanical parameters such as force and torque, and various losses including eddy, core, hysteresis, and ohmic losses. In contrast to EMS, which tackles fully 3D problems, EMWorks2D is specifically designed for 2D and axisymmetric geometries.
A winning solution
The development of EMWorks2D within a CAD-embedded environment has been remarkably successful. Many of our customers now utilize this package for longitudinally invariant and axisymmetric problems, obtaining results much faster with reduced computer resources. Additionally, users of CAD-embedded platforms can seamlessly leverage their fully 3D models without modification, thanks to EMWorks2D's powerful feature of extracting 2D geometry from user-defined cutting planes. Post-solving, users can overlay the 2D field plots onto the 3D model, enhancing analysis capabilities.
