Electro-Thermo-Mechanical Simulation of Eddy Current Braking Systems in EMS for SOLIDWORKS

Eddy current braking is an important application in the field of electromagnetics. Applications of eddy currents range across various fields including machine design, transportation, amusement park rides, and defense. With the rapid adoption of electrification, several areas of technology are embracing the eddy current braking techniques.

We will explore practical applications of eddy current braking using EMS. EMS is a finite element based field multiphysics simulation software useful for solving DC and low frequency electromagnetic problems. The transient magnetic solver in EMS together with SOLIDWORKS Motion will be used in the webinar to demonstrate eddy current braking.

In this webinar we will learn and explore,
- setting up eddy current braking simulation using EMS,
- coupling to SOLIDWORKS Motion as a way of performing electromagnetic and motion simulation,
- visualizing and creating dynamic plots for kinematics and Force/Torque results using EMS,
- understanding the behavior of the eddy currents braking systems using the field plots of EMS,
- investigating the results versus different scenarios,
- coupling to thermal solver to find out the heat generated in the studied system.
