Electrical connections between the main devices and the apparatus of power substations are called busbars. These bars are made of Aluminum or Copper conductors and carry high currents. These busbars are often supported by insulators. The rated currents of these busbars reach values of up to 10 kA and rated voltages are usually 10–30 kV. Hence, several electromagnetic phenomena occur with this alternating high power like eddy currents, skin effect, proximity effect, etc, which in turn, result in temperature raise and mechanical/thermal stresses in the busbars structure. Due to the complexity of the problem, multi-physics modeling is needed to study the different aspects of this application.
